Guidelines for the Application for Tutoring at the Resource Room of the Special Education Center at National Taiwan Normal University

  1. Basis: Implementation Guidelines for Subsidizing the Counseling of Students with Disabilities at the Universities and Colleges by the Ministry of Education.

 

  1. Purpose: The Guidelines for the Application for the Tutoring at the Resource Room of Special Education Center at National Taiwan Normal University (hereinafter referred to as the Guidelines) offers students with mental and physical disabilities staged services of tutoring for the compulsory courses in order to help them overcome their learning difficulties, thereby developing their independent learning abilities.

 

  1. Application Procedure:
  1. Students with tutoring needs are required to fill in a Tutoring Application Form, specifying their difficulties in studying the subject. Additionally, they should also submit the syllabus, course schedule for the semester and proof of course selection of the courses in which they have applied for tutoring.

 

  1. The Resource Room should ask the instructor to fill in the Instructor Cover Letter, specifying students’ needs for tutoring as well as his/her understanding of students’ class performance and difficulties in learning.

 

  1. The application is accepted for the first review. The counselor at the Resource Room should confirm the necessity of tutoring and propose suggestions to the review panel based on the (1) individualized support plan of the student; (2) the reason(s) contained in the Tutoring Application Form; (3) teaching and evaluation method of the instructor; (4) the opinion(s) stated in the Instructor Cover Letter; and (5) The school record and performance.

 

  1. The Resource Room should organize all the application cases, as well as initiate the review panel, to review the necessity, service mode and hours of the application cases. The applicant will be notified of the review results in writing. The approved list will be posted on the Resource Room website and bulletin board.

 

  1. The Resource Room will consult with the instructor or teaching assistant to recommend the appropriate tutoring list.

 

  1. Those who pass the review must pay a deposit of NT$ 900 for each subject. The Resource Room should contact the instructor and schedule the proper tutoring times and venues.

 

  1. Review panel: consists of the director and researchers of the Special Education Center as well as the teachers of the Resource Room; if necessary, the instructor and students will be invited to attend the meeting.

 

  1. Review Criteria:
  1. The courses applied for by the students for tutoring shall be compulsory courses.
  2. The courses for tutoring shall be the courses of the current semester.
  3. Each student is allowed to apply for 3 courses for tutoring in each semester, with a maximum of 2 hours per week
  4. The review panel should organize the individualized support service plans of the applicants according to the necessity and priorities and carry out the review based on the reasonable allocation of total hours available for each year.

 

  1. Administrative rules for tutoring services:
  1. Students are required to show up on time, be proactive, and be able to complete the assignments assigned by the instructor.
  2. Students are required to submit the Tutoring Record Sheet within one week after the tutoring session(s).
  3. If the student is unable to attend the tutoring session(s), he/she is required to ask the instructor and teachers at the Resource Room for leave one day in advance, or otherwise, a deposit of NT$ 300 will be deducted for each absence. Three absences will result in termination of service.
  4. If a student is absent or late for more than 20 minutes for three times in a row, the student’s access to the resource room will be terminated.
  5. Students who fail to complete and hand in the Tutoring Record Sheet on time (within one week after the end of each weekly set of tutoring sessions) will have NT$ 100 deducted from the deposit from the following week. Failure to do so three times will result in termination of service.
  6. If the service is terminated, the deposit shall be refunded without interest after deducting the above fees.
  7. The tutoring deposit will be refunded without interest upon completion of tutoring.

 

  1. Effectiveness Evaluation:
  1. The instructor should evaluate whether the intended tutoring objectives are reached.
  2. The counselor should collect the opinions from students and original instructors.
  3. Effectiveness of tutoring will be evaluated at the individualized plan meeting for the student as a basis for subsequent service provision.

 

  1. The Guidelines has been approved at the Center meeting before its implementation. The same applies to any amendments.
